It is the goal of the Hanson Girls Softball League to provide a safe, fun, and enjoyable
environment for our children to play and learn the game of softball. It should be the
primary objective of every Manager, Coach, and Parent to insure that this goal is
achieved and maintained in our League.
HGS is a non-profit organization. HGS is run by a nine member board of Directors. Since 2005, HGS has gone from Spring Softball only to running 3 leagues.
Starting with the Spring League, HGS offers all girls in Hanson to play non-competitive softball. Spring softball teaches the girls the basics of playing the game. In 2007, HGS introduced an Instructional league within Spring softball. This allowed us to start the girls at an earlier age. In 2010, we began offering Instructional to K-grade 2.
In 2007, HGS set out to join the South Shore Summer Softball league. Summer Softball allows HGS to offer the girls a chance to play cometitive softball. Summer league is played from June to August & does require try-outs. All girls that were registered in the Spring session of HGS, are welcome to try-out. Summer softball is not for every girl in Hanson, as it is a competitive team. Since HGS only joined SSSSL in 2008, we are very young in this league. In 2007, the team started with only a U12 team, we now have a U16, U14, U12 & U10 teams in the league.
In 2008, HGS introduced Fall Ball. While Fall Ball is a travel team, it is not competitive. Fall Ball allows girls to “move up” into their new divisions and also is to be fun and instructional. There are no stats kept for the league. It is not associated with SSSSL, it is run by a volunteer town, to organize & create a schedule. There are no try-outs for Fall Ball.
